Memory has always fascinated me.

Not simply because it allows us to look backwards, but because it is one of the few things capable of carrying love beyond the limits of time.

It took me many years, and two very different careers, to understand that photography is one of memory's greatest custodians.

My own journey began in law, working in wills, probate and estates. Every day I encountered the practical architecture of death: estates to administer, documents to execute, lives distilled into legal process. Yet beneath every matter was the same truth. We spend our lives accumulating possessions, achievements and ambitions, but when everything else falls away, what remains is remarkably simple. The love we gave. The lives we touched. The memories entrusted to those who continue without us.

Although I eventually left the legal profession, the perspective it gave me never did.

For the past six years I have worked across brand, marketing and creative at Carla Zampatti, collaborating with extraordinary photographers, filmmakers, artists and stylists to tell stories through imagery. It was there that I came to appreciate photography not simply as a visual medium, but as an act of preservation.

Photography suspends time in a way almost nothing else can. It allows us to return to moments that no longer exist, to remember not only how someone looked, but how they made us feel. It transforms fleeting experience into enduring witness.

That realisation became deeply personal when a photographer friend captured a portrait of my parents in early 2025. It is, without question, one of my most treasured possessions. Not because it is beautifully composed, although it is, but because it preserves something impossible to recreate.

L'EMPREINTE Foundation was born from the belief that every family deserves the chance to preserve those moments with dignity. Through complimentary professional photography sessions, we create enduring visual legacies for families navigating serious illness, terminal illness and end-of-life care.

Our work is about far more than photographs. It is about acknowledging that memory has value. That a life deserves to be witnessed. That love should not disappear simply because time does what time inevitably does.

Alongside our community of photographers, creatives, donors and supporters, I hope we can also foster broader conversations around grief, mortality, dignity and remembrance. These are universal human experiences, yet they remain conversations we too often avoid until they become unavoidable.

The Foundation's name, L'EMPREINTE, is the French word for imprint. It reflects the belief that every life leaves one. Not only in the milestones we celebrate, but in the everyday, ordinary moments that shape the people who love us.
